Caterina's Villa (#323)
A delightful Villa located right in the village of San Giovanni d’Asso but enjoying panoramic Tuscan countryside views.
The Villa has its own private entrance which leads out onto a stone patio furnished with a table, chairs and a large sun umbrella. The small private swimming pool (6 x 8 sqm) is maintained daily by the gardener. A couple of steps below is an open area with sun beds, deck chairs and a bathroom-changing room close to the antique well (XIVth century) sealed for safety by an iron grill.
Consisting of two levels, the ground floor comprises an open plan sitting room featuring a XVth century fireplace and a dining area with kitchen equipped with fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and a small oven. An iron and wood staircase leads you to the upper floor where two double bedrooms (one with a king size bed) and a twin bedded room are located, sharing two bathrooms with showers. The bedrooms have ceiling fans as well as air conditioning.
San Giovanni D’Asso is a small town and the Villa is located in the upper part of the village near the ancient castle that dates back to the XIIth century. It is now the seat of the local council and provides an ideal location for celebrating a Civil Wedding. Each November the famous White Truffle Market is hosted at the Castle.
The ancient Romanesque church of San Giovanni Battista is near the castle and the most important church in the area, San Pietro in Villore, dating back to the XIth century is just down the hill. The area is famous for its white truffles as well as local wines, olive oils, cheeses and honeys. A number of Thermal baths are to be found in the area, ideal for relaxing and many offer also beauty treatments.
There is an excellent restaurant just a one minute stroll from the Villa with an Osteria in the lower part of the town offering more casual meals. Also in the town is a bar, supermarket, chemist, butchers and a bakery.
The famous wine districts of Montalcino and Montepulciano are in easy reach as well as historical towns such as Montisi and Pienza. The area is strategically located with famous centres such as Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Orvieto, Assisi and Arezzo ideal destinations for day trips. Nearest airports are Perugia (1hr), Florence (1.75hr), Rome (2.5hr) and Pisa (3hr).
